TOP 10 – Most Stupefying Cricketing Records!

Cricket as they say is a game of glorious uncertainties. Be it a batsman scoring six consecutive sixes in an over or a night watchman scoring a double ton, this sport has experienced every bit of the drama. Listed below are the top 10 most astonishing cricketing records:

  1. Best ODI Average – (Ryan ten Doeschate) – The Dutch cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate has the best One Day International average among all the batsmen with at least 1000 runs. His average of 67 is much higher than the second placed Indian captain Virat Kohli who has a batting average of33. However, ten doeschate’s average may be regarded as a bit distorted because Netherlands rarely get to play against the big teams in International cricket.

  1. Jimmy Anderson is the all time leading wicket taker among pace bowlers in test cricket. With 611 test wickets to his name surprisingly he also holds another unwanted record of conceding the most runs in an over by a fast bowler in a single over in a test match after he conceded 28 runs in an over against Australia in 2013 when he was smacked all over the park by George Bailey at Perth.

  1. One of the most feared batsman of his era, Sanath Jayasuria broke many records with his destructive batting style. However, he also holds the record of most ducks in ODI cricket history with 34 ducks to his name.

  1. Sanath Jayasuria features again in this list as at the end of his ODI career he had more wickets to his name than the legendary leg spinner Shane Warne. Sanath Jayasuria had 323 wickets to his name while Warne had only 293. The caveat of course is that Warne played only 194 matches whereas Jayasuria had played a total of 445 matches.

  1. In 2002, Indian all-rounder Ajit Agarkar achieved what legendary batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting couldn’t. Agarkar managed to score a test century at Lord’s.

  1. Ajit Agarkar features again in this list for this surprising statistic. Despite the number of attacking batsman India has produced over the years, it is Agarkar who holds the record for the fastest fifty in ODI for India when he scored 50 of just 21 deliveries against Zimbabwe at Rajkot.

  1. Although he is considered as one of the greatest batsman Pakistan ever produced, Inzamam-ul-Haq, he was never known for his bowling though he picked up a wicket off his very first delivery in international cricket and that wicket was none other than of Brian Lara.

  1. Sir Donald Bradman just hit 6 sixes in his entire career despite scoring nearly 7000 runs with an average of 99.94.

  1. Wasim Akram’s highest individual test match score is higher than many legendary batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Jacques Kallis and Sachin Tendulkar. Akram scored an unbeaten score of 257* against Zimbabwe. It is also the highest score for a number 8 batsman in test cricket till date. Akram hit 12 sixes during his knock, which is still the highest number of sixes hit in a test innings.

  1. The unlikeliest record in cricket history, Playing in the last match of his career and despite primarily being a fast bowler Jason Gillespie scored 201* against Bangladesh in 2006 to set up a world record for the highest individual score by a nightwatchman in cricket and it remains the only double century by a night watchman in the history of test match cricket.

These are the top 10 most surprising cricket statistics/records of all time .This is obviously a subjective matter and the choices may differ from person to person. If any record you think is being missed or can be added please do comment and let us know!
