Erling Braut Haaland has been on the top of his game ever since he joined Borussia Dortmund in the winter transfer window last year.
At 20 years, he has got great confidence and he backs it up with his special performances on the football pitch. Since joining the Bundesliga, he has broken numerous records. One being, scoring a hat-trick after coming in as a substitute in the 56th minute. He scored this in just a matter of 27 minutes after getting subbed on.
Haaland is extremely hardworking and a bold character on and off the pitch. He has the strength as well as the pace which makes him a deadly player up front. He has a formidable left-foot and he rarely misses chances and loves to score goals. Erling Haaland is a player of the rarest kind. In the age of false nines and shadow strikers, there are very few pure number nines. Although the teams have target men in their ranks, a number nine is way more than just that. Ex Leeds United and Manchester City utility man Alf-Ing has probably taught his son all the tricks of all the strikers he has ever faced in his career. Haaland is gifted with exceptional movement both on and off the ball. He has great close control on both his legs. Standing at 6’4″, he can command the aerial balls easily and therefore can function as a target for crosses with effortless ease. His long limbs give him a head start over most of the defenders around the world.
While physically, he was born to be a striker and his attitude is something that makes him stand out from other teenagers. Haaland can both attack the post from the front and also hang back for cut-backs during attacks. His ability to poach goals is unparalleled for a teenager while his second goal against PSG proved his ability to blast the nets from distance
In the recent match against Bayern Munich, Haaland scored with just two minutes gone when his shot clipped the heel of Jerome Boateng. Bayern were reeling after nine minutes when Thorgan Hazard flicked the ball back inside for Haaland to again smash the ball home.
Erling Haaland is under contract at Borussia Dortmund until 2024 but the 20-year-old’s £66m release clause reportedly becomes active next year; Haaland scored twice in the 4-2 Bundesliga defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday. Even Hansi Flick claimed that Haaland’s move to Bayern cannot be ruled out.
The kind of quality player Haaland is, it may be tough to say that he would stay at Borussia Dortmund for a long span of time. He is one of the best youngsters in the world right now and every European giant would want to have the Norweignian added to their squad.
This decision however could backfire because of the different leagues and style of play. Playing in the EPL is another level of difficulty which Haaland may or may not adapt or succeed with as seen with many others like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz. None of them could do half as well as they did for their previous clubs.
