The concept of playing three forwards is relatively new in football. It came into existence with the growing importance of quick wingers who could cut inside and score goals. The footballing world has seen a great number of attacking trios over the past number of years including Manchester United’s “Holy Trinity” of George Best, Dennis Law, and Bobby Charlton in 1960s and 70s; Brazil’s Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho and of course the lethal Barcelona lineup of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez, which scored a combined 364 goals in just three seasons between 2014 and 2017. Let’s look at some of the current attacking trios, who have the ability to tear apart defences on a regular basis.
- Sane-Lewandowski-Serge Gnabry
By far the most deadly trio in Europe at the moment. Robert Lewandowsi himself has 28 goals to his name in the Bundesliga this season. Serge Gnabry has scored seven times and Leroy Sane has performed equally well with 4 goals and 7 assists. Sane and Gnabry have till date performed over the expectations fans had from them as they were the successors of the very famous and clinical duo of Robben and Ribery (Also known as Robbery).
This trio of Dybala, Ronaldo and Morata is very much of an attacking trio, when it comes to clinical finishing as forwards. Cristiano Ronaldo is the Serie A top scorer with 19 goals so far. Morata is doing well with 4 goals and 7 assists to his name and Dybala is up with 2 goals. On a given day, these three have the ability to change the course of the match within just a few minutes so they equally contend for the best 7-9-10 currently.
- Kun Aguero-G Jesus-Raheem Sterling
Kun Aguero was back for Man City, starting against West Ham recently. Haven’t seen much of Aguero this season still we all know what this man is capable of. Gabriel Jesus showed some form earlier this season and Raheem Sterling has proved his worth over the last couple of years. This trio is one of the most deadly in Europe currently in terms of pace and the ability to score goals.
After signing Cavani this season, Manchester United have found depth in their attacking options. With Bruno Fernandes as the top scorer for Manchester United so far, things have been going pretty well for the Red Devils so far. Rashford is in red hot form and is starting to show himself as one of the best players in England at the moment. On the other hand the Frenchman has struggled a bit to find the back of the net this season. Cavani has played his part very well when needed and so this trio is one of the most prolific in the scene right now.
Lukaku and Lautaro make a great duo to be honest, both of them having scored a total of 30 goals so far this season in the Serie A. Lukaku has scored 17 times while the Argentina forward has found the net 13 times
